Sex Offender Sweep Nets 20 Felony Arrests In Macomb, Oakland Counties

OAK PARK (WWJ) - Twenty sex offenders were apprehended on outstanding felony warrants following a sweep in Macomb and Oakland counties last week.

Investigators had previously checked the residences of 414 registered sex offenders in both counties to verify the offenders were living at their reported addresses. Registered sex offenders are required to report a change of address within three business days when they move or vacate a residence. Offenders who fail to report an address change can face a four-year felony conviction.

The compliance checks resulted in 23 warrants being authorized by prosecutors in Macomb and Oakland counties. Investigators are working to apprehend the remaining three offenders.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police joined forces with the United States Marshals Service, Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit and Macomb Circuit Court Probation, Detroit Police Department, Sterling Heights Police Department and Warren Police Department for the collaborative enforcement effort.
