Police: Several Hurt, 1 Critically When Minivan Driver Runs Red Light On Gratiot

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police say a driver who ran a red light caused a three-car crash that injured several people Friday.

Southbound Gratiot Ave. at Masonic was shut down following the accident before 11 a.m., in Roseville.

According to police, the driver of a minivan went through a light along southbound Gratiot at Masonic, hitting a car that then swerved and struck a third vehicle.

The driver of the first car that was hit was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition with a head injury, police said. Several other people were also transported to area hospitals with a variety of less serious injuries.

It's not known, police said, if alcohol or drugs might have played a role or what else may have led to the crash.

No names have been released.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area of southbound Gratiot and Masonic during the accident investigation. The intersection remained closed before 12:30 p.m., but has since reopened.
