Senior Citizens Walk Away From Plane Crash In Michigan's Thumb

BRIDGEHAMPTON TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Two people in their 60s have walked away from a small plane crash in Sanilac County in Michigan's Thumb.

The sheriff's office says the plane crashed in a field Tuesday in Bridgehampton Township, 50 miles north of Port Huron. Deputy Chad Adams told WLEW reporters that the 69-year-old pilot and 64-year-old passenger had just left an airport in Sandusky when they started experiencing mechanical problems.

The pilot tried to return to Sandusky but chose to attempt an emergency landing. He lost control of the aircraft over the field and the plane eventually landed upside down.

When officials arrived on the scene, both the pilot and the passenger were walking around. They were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash in now being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
