Semi-Truck Doors Fly Open, Spilling Mail Along Hall Road

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) U.S. Post Office workers finished an unusual task just before 6 a.m. Monday, picking up baskets of mail that had spilled out of a semi truck in Sterling Heights.

The doors of a semi truck carrying bins of mail opened earlier this morning and spilled envelopes and other items on Hall Road near Schoenherr.

On the roadway, workers were on their hands and knees picking up the mail. It's unknown what caused the doors to fly open. No injuries were reported.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reported only one lane of Hall Road was open during the situation.

Sterling Heights police and Macomb County Road Commission trucks were also there along with U.S. Postal workers.

Motorist Josie Sidlowski couldn't believe her eyes when she stumbled onto the scene.

"I seen a semi with the back doors open, and you could see all the things falling out, but when I looked at the side of the semi it said U.S. Mail, and I thought 'oh my God, that's people's mail all over'" she said.

She added it fell in all different directions across the roadway, and she thought the clean-up was "going to be crazy."
