Semi Carrying Beer Catches Fire, Causes Backups On I-96

BRIGHTON (WWJ) -- A fiery, frothy accident had parts of I-96 backed up in Livingston County on Friday afternoon.

Brighton Area Fire Authority deputy chief Mike Evans says a semi-truck that caught fire on westbound I-96 was carrying some precious cargo.

"The trailer it was carrying was loaded with beer," Evans told WWJ Newsradio 950. "It was an insulated trailer."

The truck blew a tire which caught fire and spread to the trailer. There were no reported injuries to any motorists.

"There are no human casualties, injuries -- however we did have several alcoholic beverage casualties," Evans said.

The trailer has to be unloaded of its cargo -- cans and bottles of Budweiser-- before it can be hauled away on a flatbed truck.
