Security Guard Shot Dead At CVS Pharmacy In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a 24-year-old security guard was trying to help a colleague when he was shot and killed at a CVS Pharmacy in northwest Detroit.

The shooting happened around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at the CVS Pharmacy on Schaefer Highway, just south of McNichols Road.

Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson said officers rushed to the scene after receiving word of the shooting, but there wasn't much they could do to help the victim.

"Upon arriving on the scene, there was a male security guard who had been shot in the neck and that security guard was conveyed to the hospital," Johnson said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the hospital. No one else was injured.

"We believe that it was something that had to do with another security guard and the victim came running out to help and was shot," Johnson said.

According to reports, the incident involves a robbery. The shooting took place as the store was open for business and Johnson he's hoping witnesses can help police fill in the missing pieces.

"Investigators will try to take a look if there are cameras on the outside of the store, and obviously if there are any cameras throughout the area that may help," Johnson said.

Johnson disputed various reports that say arrests have been made in the case. He said police are currently looking for two suspects and a burgundy Ford Taurus that was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

"The first suspect is a black male, age 20, in a red coat and black hat. The second suspect, we do not have a description at this time," Johnson said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detroit police at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
