Security Guard Shoots, Kills Suspected Thief At Detroit Construction Site

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating a deadly shooting involving a security guard and someone who was allegedly stealing from a construction site.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. Tuesday near an apartment complex in the area of Woodward Avenue and McNichols Road.

The female security guard told police that she saw the man stealing from the site she was monitoring. The guard confronted the man but he apparently wouldn't cooperate, so the guard tried to take the stolen items from his car, according to reports. The man then tried to drive off, with the guard partially inside of his vehicle, and she fired shots.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The security guard was taken into custody at the scene. She was carrying the gun on duty but reportedly does not have a concealed pistol license. It's unclear if she's facing any charges.

An investigation is ongoing.
