Search Resumes For Body Of Man Whose Boat Was Struck

FRANKENLUST TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have resumed the search for the body of a man they believe died after going into the Saginaw River from a small boat that was struck by a barge.

Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel tells The Saginaw News that dive team members were working Saturday morning, a day after rescuers were called near the Bay County-Saginaw County line.

Fifty-three-year-old Robert Todd of Vassar is presumed dead.

The sheriff says the boat's motor failed, leaving Todd and 25-year-old David Brigham "powerless in the middle of the river." They tried to fix the motor but a barge being pushed by a tugboat struck their vessel.

Authorities say Brigham swam to a buoy but couldn't locate Todd. Brigham is expected to recover from his injuries.

It's been ruled an accident.
