Same House Catches Fire Twice Overnight In Detroit [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Neighbors say squatters are responsible for setting two fires overnight at the same home on Detroit's northwest side.

Firefighters first responded the two-story home on Whitcomb Street, near Greenfield and Schoolcraft, late Monday night and quickly extinguished the blaze. Crews were called back to the scene just hours later, around 3 a.m. Tuesday, and returned to find the top floor of the home engulfed in flames.

"It was out, I mean, it was out," neighbor Lloyd Wesley told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "Someone came back and reset that fire."

Officials say the fire is suspicious, although an official cause remains under investigation. But nearby residents like Wesley think some unwelcome neighbors might be to blame.

"It's squatters, okay," Wesley said. "It's unacceptable."

Wesley said squatters staying in the home recently had a dispute with police officers and that might have contributed to the fire -- although that could not be confirmed with investigators.

No one was injured in the fire.
