Salute To America Includes Fireworks At Greenfield Village

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - The annual Salute to America celebration featuring the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and a big fireworks display is taking place at Greenfield Village in suburban Detroit.

The U.S. Army Field Band, Concert Band and Soldiers' Chorus is joining the symphony for performances, which take place Thursday through Sunday in Dearborn.

The shows end with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" and features cannon fire and fireworks.

Visitors will be able to see "Take Me Home Huey," Steve Maloney's mixed-media sculpture created from remains of a U.S. Army helicopter that was shot down in 1969 during a Vietnam medial rescue. Games and children's activities also are planned.

Details are posted on the website of The Henry Ford, which includes Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum.
