Saline residents asked to conserve water for essential use due to well repairs
The City of Saline in Washtenaw County, Michigan, is urging for an immediate pause of "non-essential water use" such as lawn watering as critical repairs are taking place on one of its aquifer wells.
The notice was issued Monday, and city officials say residents may notice "harder than normal" water while the repairs take place.
"At this moment, we do not have an accurate timeline of how long the repairs may take. We will have a better idea of this timeline at the end of the week," the report said.
The repairs are taking place on Well Number 5, which is the main source of water from the city aquifer. While there is no need to boil water due to the repair work, city officials ask that water use be limited to essential indoor use such as drinking, cooking, cleaning and sanitation. Refrain from irrigation, lawn watering, car washing and filling pools.
"We know this is an inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our residents. By working together, we can ensure every household and business has reliable access to water while we finish this vital repair," Acting City Manager Elle Cole said in the announcement.
About 9,000 people live in the city of Saline.
Updates will be posted on the city's website.
