CBS DETROIT - More than a week after visiting the Detroit Lions headquarters in Allen Park, free agent safety James Ihedigbo has signed with the team, and by the looks of his Twitter feed, he cannot wait to start.

The safety has played in 48 straight regular season games, a solid sign in terms of his health. In 2013, he had the best year of his career in terms of statistics, with 101 tackles, two forced fumbles and fumble recoveries, 11 passes defensed and three interceptions.

Detroit had needed a starting safety after releasing Louis Delmas earlier this offseason. Ihedigbo is expected to start alongside Glover Quin.
