Behind The Mic: Royal Oak Resident Finds Dream Job Voicing Commercials We All Know

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - You may not know her by her face or her name, but you would probably recognize Lecia Macryn just by her voice, which has been featured on many well-known advertisements.

WWJ's Sandra McNeill spoke with Macryn, a P-Plus talent, who you can hear talking about anything from hospitals, cars and Lazy Boys.

Macryn left her radio job and began working out of a home studio so she could spend more time with her two young children.

"I was working a lot of hours at the time," Macryn said. "I had two children, and the guilt set in for being gone."

Macryn set out to live out her "dream job," but said breaking into the industry wasn't easy.

"It consists of talent, a lot of luck and a lot of determination," Macryn said. "In the beginning, I wasn't sure if I made the right choice because it was very hard. It's the wild west, but I guess where there's a will, there's a way.

"Things just started coming in and word of mouth spread," Macryn said. "I became better at what I did and it's continued since then."

Macryn said that her voice eventually took off.

"I don't do a lot of crazy voices," Macryn said. "I have heard people tell me that [my voice] is unique and that I cut through and that it is very relatable."

Macryn now gets steady work in her dream job, but said there are some drawbacks.

"You have to be available at the drop of a hat a lot of times," Macryn said. "But, yes, I do work in my pajamas."

[They are the voices behind the microphone, now we're highlighting those who make their living voicing the spots you hear everyday. You can hear their stories all week on WWJ Newsradio 950, or read more here at CBSDetroit.com]
