Royal Oak Police Criticized After Video Of Forceful Arrest Surfaces Online

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after a video showing Royal Oak police officers forcibly arresting a suspect began gaining attention online.

The incident happened in Royal Oak outside of Blackfinn Ameripub on Main St. between 5th and 6th Streets on Thursday. Tempers allegedly boiled over in the restaurant and later outside during a St. Patrick's Day party, according to FOX 2.

Witnesses say a man got in a fight with someone in the bar and was taken outside by security before the police got involved. The video shows a crowd surrounding multiple officers trying to subdue the man.

The officers can be seen throwing the man to the ground and using a taser on him.

"He was in fact fighting," Royal Oak police chief Corrigan O'Donohue told FOX 2. "And that's what it appeared to the officers and they took appropriate action. Everything appears to be fine. I'm not aware of any issue, but we will do a thorough investigation like we do anytime we use force."
