Round And Round! Washtenaw County Wants To Know What You Think Of Roundabouts

WASHTENAW (WWJ) - Do you need to have a spot of Euro-blood in you to appreciate roundabouts?

Washtenaw County is working to find out what drivers think about the circular traffic movers.

The Road Commission is asking people to fill out an online questionnaire with their opinions and experiences.  Information from the survey could be used to change or enhance the features of roundabouts.

There are 15 roundabouts in Washtenaw County with three more planned in the next two years.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, roundabouts have been proven to be one of the safest intersections available—providing a 39% reduction in total crashes and a 90% reduction in serious injury/fatal accidents.

In addition to the safety benefits, roundabouts can also reduce traffic delays, provide better fuel consumption for drivers and reduced air pollution.

Despite the reported benefits, the Road Commission does receive feedback from some users who find roundabouts uncomfortable, confusing and unsafe.
