Rouge Park to Host Annual Open Streets Detroit Program
DETROIT (AP) — Three miles of roadway in Detroit's Rouge Park will be temporarily turned into a car-free zone for people to run, bike, skate, shop and take part in other free activities.
The annual Open Streets Detroit program is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. July 21 at the west side park.
The family-friendly event was launched in 2016 to encourage healthy activities and foster increased interaction between neighborhood businesses and residents. It's been held in southwest Detroit and the city's Corktown neighborhood.
Detroit Deputy Chief Services and Infrastructure officer Brad Dick says having Open Streets in Rouge Park "gives it a twist where people are able to enjoy great family activities within a park setting."
Past programs have featured arts and cultural programs, folk dancing, street hockey and soccer clinics.
