Road Trip Supporting US Military Veterans To Stop In Detroit

DETROIT (AP) - A cross-country event aimed at rallying communities behind U.S. military veterans is scheduled to stop in Detroit.

The mayor's office says The Purple Heart Run road trip's 2015 Ford F-150 Super Cab truck will roll into downtown Thursday morning where wounded veterans will be honored at the Spirit of Detroit statue outside City Hall.

The Purple Heart Run started Monday in Virginia and is headed to California. It will return to the East Coast and is expected to arrive May 30 in Washington, D.C.

Cpl. Tyler Huffman is driving the truck, which has been customized for combat-wounded veterans who are paralyzed or have lost legs or arms. Huffman was wounded during combat in Afghanistan.
