Rifle Stolen From Highland Park Police Chief's Vehicle

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say an AR-15 rifle was stolen from the Highland Park police chief's SUV while it was parked outside a church.

Police Sgt. Michael Woody tells The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press that Chief Kevin Coney was attending a midday church service Sunday and noticed that his Cadillac Escalade had been broken into after coming out of church. Woody says the rifle was taken.

Woody says that investigators are following up on some leads. He says he's confident that police will get the weapon back.

Coney referred questions Monday from The Associated Press to Highland Park's legal department. The AP left a message there seeking comment.
