Retired Soldier, Family Move Into Donated Metro Detroit Home

LIVONIA (AP) -- A retired Army soldier and his family have been given a three-bedroom home near Detroit.

The Detroit News reports Citizens Bank partnered with the Texas-based Military Warriors Support Foundation to donate the recently renovated brick ranch Saturday to 30-year-old John Blizinski of Royal Oak.

Blizinski described the donation as "life changing." Nicole Blizinski wiped away tears as she walked through the home with her husband, a former Army medic. The family had been with John Blizinski's parents in Royal Oak after he took a medical retirement from the Army in January.

Blizinski served in the Army for nearly seven years. He received the Purple Heart in 2012, along with a Combat Medic Badge, two Army Commendation Medals and two Army Achievement Medals.
