Police Search For Barricaded Gunman After 'Standoff' In Pontiac

PONTIAC (WWJ) -- The man who Oakland County Sheriff's deputies said was held up inside a Pontiac home on Monday afternoon with a gun was discovered to not have been there at all.

Sheriff's officials got a call just before 9 a.m. Monday morning that an armed man barricaded himself inside a home in the area of Telegraph and Hazel Ave., south of M-59 where one gunshot had been fired. Once they arrived on scene, deputies attempted to make contact with the man, but there was no answer.

Police evacuated the residential area as a precaution.

Once the Oakland County SWAT Team forced their way into the home, they found that the house was empty. Police say the man had an argument with his girlfriend which led to a shot being fired, and he threatened to kill her and himself. There were no reported injuries.

While sheriff's officials would not discuss the details of the investigation, they said that officers are now on the hunt for the suspected gunman.
