Rescue Group Seeks Tips In Case Of Seriously Injured Dog Found Wandering

DETROIT (WWJ) - A local rescue group is investigating what may be a brutal case of animal abuse.

Detroit Dog Rescue Executive Director Kristina Rinaldi says dog catchers found an injured one-year-old gray and white Yorkie mix over the weekend, wandering alone on a city streets.

Now, she said, they're trying to figure out where he came from.

"This is one of the most bizarre cases that I've ever seen," Rinaldi told WWJ's Zahra Huber. "The dog was picked up by Detroit Animal Control, with a tag and collar, and with some really serious trauma. And the people at the address are stating that they've never seen the dog, don't know anything about the dog."

Rinaldi said the dog — named "Faygo Rad Pup" — had suffered blunt force trauma to the head. The damage was so bad, she said, that a veterinarian had to remove his eye. Now in the care of Oakland Veterinary Referral Services, Faygo is undergoing neurology tests for paralysis in some limbs.

Medical bills are expected to reach the $3,000 mark, but, Rinaldi said, Faygo is expected to be OK after a lengthy recovery.

Rinaldi said they're looking for tips from the public.
