Reports: Pistons Sign Former UD-Mercy Guard Ray McCallum Jr.

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- According to multiple reports, the Detroit Pistons have signed journyman guard and former University of Detroit Mercy star Ray McCallum Jr. to a one-year, minimum contract.

McCallum played for his father, Ray McCallum Sr., at Detroit Mercy for three seasons, where he averaged 15.9 points and 4.4 assists per game.

The Sacramento Kings drafted McCallum with the 36th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He has played with the Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies over the course of his three-year career, averaging 6.0 points and 2.4 assists per game.

The Pistons signed Ish Smith to play the primary reserve point guard role behind Reggie Jackson, most likely leaving McCallum as a third-string option.
