Report: Tigers Interested In Veteran SP Justin Masterson

If there's an MLB free agent available, you can bet Detroit Tigers president Dave Dombrowski is standing by the phone.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes, the Tigers have expressed interest in veteran starting pitcher Justin Masterson, who spent time with the Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Cardinals in 2014.

"Masterson, 30, has received inquiries from the four other teams in the AL Central – Detroit, Kansas City, Minnesota and Chicago."

If the Tigers in fact lose Max Scherzer to free agency, they will need to fill a starting rotation spot -- whether through the farm system or free agency.

Masterson struggled in 2014, posting a 5.88 ERA and a 7-9 record. Masterson was undeniably Cleveland's ace in 2013, when he tallied three complete games, a 3.45 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.
