CBS DETROIT - The Denver Broncos will interview Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin on Friday for the team's head coaching vacancy, according to the Denver Post.

Austin made a convincing first impression in his debut as an NFL coordinator. With almost all the same players Detroit had in 2013, when the defense ranked in the middle of the pack, under Austin the Lions finished 2014 as the second-best unit in the league. The only better defense belonged to the Seattle Seahawks, the defending Super Bowl champions who have a chance to repeat this season.

Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is also a candidate for the Denver job, per the Post.

Once Austin speaks to the Broncos, he will have interviewed with five teams. He was also considered for the head coach openings of the San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Bears, the Buffalo Bills and the Atlanta Falcons.

Austin had a second interview Wednesday with Atlanta, and he and Quinn are considered finalists for that job, the Post reports.
