Report: Michigan Teens Have A Better Shot At Summer Jobs This Year

(AP/WWJ) School's about to close for the season, and there's some good news on the horizon for the parents of teens.

They could get out of the house, and rake in some cash.

Michigan officials expect the state's teen summer unemployment rate to continue its downward trend this year.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget said in a news release that the projected summer unemployment rate for teens is 17.2 percent, which would be down nearly 3 percentage points from summer 2014.

According to the department, the teen summer unemployment rate has been on the decline since reaching its historic high of 35 percent in 2010.

The department said improvements in Michigan's overall job market have helped teens, although competition for summer jobs will remain high this year.
