Report: Michigan Reached Out To Jim Harbaugh

CBS DETROIT - Michigan has reached out to San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh to gauge his interest in taking over as head coach at his alma mater, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Unfortunately for many Michigan fans who believed Harbaugh would be the perfect man for the job, Harbaugh reportedly wants to remain in the NFL.

Michigan fired Brady Hoke at the conclusion of this season. The Wolverines went 5-7, leaving them ineligible for a bowl game after the team went 7-5 last season before losing in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

Interim athletic director Jim Hackett made the decision to fire Hoke, and he will also be in charge of hiring Hoke's replacement. Hackett said the university will be aided in its search by a headhunting firm familiar with Michigan.
