Police: Man Shot By Police In Inkster May Be Connected To Earlier Homicide

INKSTER (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are investigating an officer involved fatal shooting in Inkster, which may be connected to a homicide which happened late afternoon.

Lt. Mike Shaw says the Inkster Police officer was responding to a call about a deadly shooting on Fredrickson---near Inkster Road and Michigan Ave--- when the officer saw a man that fit the description of a suspect connected to the homicide he was responding to.

"He turned his patrol car around - tried to make contact with that individual to identify him," said Shaw. "The individual pulled a weapon and fired shots at that officer -- the officer engaged the suspect, hitting him and killing him."

The initial homicide took place in the area of Inkster and Michigan Ave just after 5 p.m., and the officer-involved shooting occurred minutes later.

The Inkster police officer was not injured.

Shaw says they are in the process of dividing the two scenes as the investigation continues.

No one has been identified as police continue to investigate.
