Report: Lions Now Own Trademark For 'Defend The Den'

Trademarking catchphrases and nicknames has become hot business in sports over the past few years. The Seahawks own the trademark for '12s,' referring to their fans. Individual athletes, like Tim Tebow or Jeremy Lin, have trademarked phrases related to their names, like "Linsanity" or "Tebowing."

And now according to ESPN, the Lions have trademarked their own:

"Defend the Den" signage has been up at Ford Field all season, and the Lions' social media pages routinely use it.

The Lions are coming off a 7-9 season, and just hired a new general manager, in Bob Quinn. Quinn is still mulling head coach Jim Caldwell's future with the team. As of Thursday, no decision had been made, and no timetable had been set.
