Report: Isiah Thomas Could Soon Join Ownership Group Of Pistons
CBS DETROIT - Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas could soon own a piece of the franchise he led to back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990, according to the Detroit News.
The NBA and the partners of Platinum Equity would have to approve Thomas to join the ownership group, of which he would be a "not a ceremonial piece, but a respectable piece," per the News. The discussions are reportedly in the early stages, with the percentage of ownership not yet agreed upon.
The Pistons took Thomas with the second overall pick of the 1981 draft, and the point guard - now in the Hall of Fame - played for the team until 1994. During the tenure of Thomas, Detroit made the playoffs nine straight years. Five times the Pistons made it as far as the conference finals, and twice they won the championship.
