Report: Greg Monroe Officially Signs Qualifying Offer With Pistons

(97.1 The Ticket) -- The summer-long saga between the Detroit Pistons and restricted free agent Greg Monroe may finally be coming to a close.

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted on Friday that Greg Monroe will indeed sign a qualifying offer with the Pistons worth around $5.5 million after reports earlier in August hinted that the power forward would do so.

The deal will make Monroe a Piston through the upcoming season and later an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2015. Rumors surfaced throughout the summer that the Pistons' front office, headed by Stan Van Gundy, had tried to work out a sign-and-trade with several different teams without success.

Barring poor production or injury in the upcoming season, Monroe should be a hot commodity on the open market. Known as a throwback big man with traditional back-to-the-basket moves, Monroe has averaged at least 15 points and 9 rebounds per game in each of his last three seasons.
