Report: Great Lake Water Levels Rebound From Concerning 2013 Figures

SAINT CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) -- After reaching historic lows just last year,  lake levels in Michigan and throughout the Great Lakes region are back, in a big way.

According to an Army Corps of Engineers report, water levels in Lakes Michigan, Huron and Superior are at least a foot higher than they were a year ago while levels are also up in Lakes Erie and Ontario.

Chip Miller, whose family owns Miller's Marina on Jefferson, south of 10 Mile in Saint Clair Shores, said the higher levels have also led to a resurgence among boaters with his marina, and others, now at near capacity for the first time in years.

"We're way up -- the lake levels are just fine," Miller said. "I've got a larger cruiser and I draft over three feet and I have no problems getting around the lake.

Miller says the higher water levels have also helped generate a renewed enthusiasm for boating.  His marina, like many others in metro Detroit, are at near capacity for the first time in years.
