In a quest to improve upon a below-average starting pitching staff, scouts from the Detroit Tigers were in Oakland on Friday to see Atheltics' ace Scott Kazmir pitch, according to a report.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle tweeted on Friday that the Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees were all in town to see the 31-year-old southpaw throw against the Minnesota Twins.

In 17 starts this season, Kazmir has a 3.16 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 96 strikeouts and 34 walks. Kazmir signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the A's in 2013. The three-time All-Star pitched with the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2008 World Series.

Kazmir pitched in the minor leagues in 2012 season, before finishing third in the American League Comeback Player of the Year award voting with the Cleveland Indians in 2013.
