Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib is helping an effort to prohibit members of the U.S. Congress and their spouses from buying and selling stocks from defense contractors.

According to a release from her office, Tlaib reintroduced the Stop Politicians Profiting from War Act of 2025 on Thursday.

The proposed bill also bans Congress members from owning stocks in any company that does business with the U.S. Department of Defense.

A similar bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in February 2024 but did not advance past a subcommittee.

"It is disgusting that Members of Congress benefit financially when they vote to pass more funding for war," Tlaib said in a release.

The proposed legislation is cosponsored by 11 other Democratic U.S. Representatives.
