The case of a man found dead after a structure fire in Eaton County, Michigan, is being investigated as a homicide, local officials reported.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office and Windsor Township Fire Department were sent shortly after 3 p.m. Feb. 10 to a location on East Vermontville Highway in Windsor Township where two outbuildings were on fire, according to deputies. After the fire was extinguished, human remains were found.

In the aftermath, the Eaton County Sheriff's Office detective bureau has been working closely with the University of Michigan Sparrow Medical Examiner's Office and the Michigan State Police Forensic Science Division to identify the deceased. Late last week, the Michigan State Police Crime Lab was able to identify the remains as Lance Pollo, a 38-year-old male from Lansing.

"This incident is being investigated as an apparent homicide, and we are seeking the public's help," the Eaton County Sheriff's Office said in its report.
