Red Wings Send Tootoo to Grand Rapids

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned right wing Jordin Tootoo to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Tootoo, 31, has appeared in 53 games for Detroit over the last two seasons, notching nine points (3-6-9) and 83 penalty minutes. In 539 career NHL games between Nashville and Detroit, the Churchill, Manitoba, native has tallied 134 points (49-85-134) and 808 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-9, 201-lb., winger has also skated in 38 games with Grand Rapids this season, recording 14 points (4-10-14) and 74 penalty minutes. Tootoo has made 138 career AHL appearances, registering 63 points (27-36-63) and 138 penalty minutes.

The Red Wings are in action tonight against the division-rival Toronto Maple Leafs at 7:30 p.m. (FOX Sports Detroit/97.1 The Ticket). Detroit will also host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before a home-and-home set against the Minnesota Wild this weekend, visiting Minnesota on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. EDT and returning to Joe Louis Arena on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
