Real Madrid To Face Manchester United In Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The Aug. 2 preseason exhibition between Manchester United and Real Madrid will be played at Michigan Stadium.

The match was announced Feb. 20, and the venue was finalized Friday. It will be played near the Detroit headquarters of General Motors Co., whose Chevrolet division takes over United's shirt sponsorship next season in a $559 million, seven-year deal.

Manchester United's U.S. tour also includes games against Roma at Denver's Sports Authority Field on July 26, and Inter Milan on July 29 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

Real plays Inter Milan at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on July 26 and Roma at Dallas' Cotton Bowl on July 29. The matches are part of a preseason tournament called the International Champions Cup, and the final is Aug. 4 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

It will be the Big House's second major non-college football event this year. The stadium was also the site of the NHL's Winter Classic on Jan. 1.

Michigan's football team has played 251 consecutive home games in front of crowds in excess of 100,000, dating to 1975.
