Rally Scheduled To Welcome Students Back To Detroit School

DETROIT (AP) — Members of a Detroit City Council task force on black male engagement will attend a rally welcoming students back to Wright Elementary School.

The rally is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the school in northwest Detroit.

Councilman James Tate is co-chair of the task force. He says "everyone has a role to play in shaping" Detroit's future and that it's the community's responsibility to ensure "future leaders are off to a great start."

The task force is a network of black men in Detroit who are committed to strengthening their communities. The group addresses cultural awareness, community service, family responsibility, health, disease prevention, character building and career preparation.
