Rally Planned In Memory Of 5-Year-Old Nevaeh Buchanan, Found Buried In 2009

MONROE (WWJ/AP) - A rally and march are planned in memory of a 5-year-old southeastern Michigan girl who disappeared in 2009 and was found buried near a river.

The rally for Nevaeh Buchanan begins at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Park in Monroe, followed by a procession to the Monroe County Law Enforcement Center, according to the Monroe News.

The event is coordinated by members of Justice for Nevaeh, an organization that formed among some volunteers who helped search for the girl. The hope is that authorities will get enough information so that an arrest can be made in the case.

Nevaeh disappeared May 24, 2009, from Monroe, located between Detroit and Toledo, Ohio. Her body was found 10 days later along the nearby River Raisin. An autopsy found she suffocated after inhaling dirt.

There is an ongoing cash reward for anyone who provides a tip leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect. Anyone with information should call the Monroe County Sheriff's Department at 734-240-7401.
