Race For Governor, There Is An App For That

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBSDetroit.com) - The race to be Michigan's governor is headed to the smartphones of voters as Rick Snyder's  reelection campaign has released a mobile app.

The Rick for Michigan app, which is available for free in the iTunes store and Google Play store, includes a feed of news stories, the latest polls and campaign events.

"Wherever you live, whatever device you use, we want you to engage as an active participant in this election," Snyder said in a release.  "This election is about every Michigander's future, and everyone has a stake in it. That's why we're launching a mobile app to make this the most open and informative campaign in history."

The app also includes curated news items and social media posts from the campaign; biographical information and his stance on issues;  and how to become involved in the campaign.

Snyder's Democratic opponent, Mark Schauer, does not have an app.

Both candidates have Facebook pages, Snyder has 16,000 likes and Schauer has 31,000 likes. On Twitter, Snyder has 3,164 followers and Schauer has 4,339 followers.
