Quicken Loans Secures Naming Rights For Detroit's Light Rail

DETROIT (AP) - Quicken Loans has secured the naming rights to Detroit's light rail project.

M-1 Rail Chief Operating Officer Paul Childs said in a statement to the Detroit Free Press that the rights are part of the company's financial support during project fundraising. Childs says M-1 Rail is working on other branding, including recognition of donors who sponsored station stops.

It's unclear when a naming decision would be reached.

Quicken's founder, Dan Gilbert, has a high profile in the redevelopment of downtown Detroit. The Free Press says Quicken pledged $10 million to the about $140 million project and the company is sponsoring the Congress station.

Crain's Detroit Business earlier reported about the naming rights.

The rail line is to start running in 2016. It will extend 3.3 miles from Detroit's downtown riverfront.
