Public Input Sought In State Mental Health System Overhaul

DETROIT (WWJ) - A metro Detroit mental health agency wants the public's input to help better serve the state's system of care.

The Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority is hosting a series of community forums around Wayne County, as part of the statewide process to overhaul Michigan's mental health services.

Earlier this year, a panel appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to study gaps in delivery of care made about 60 recommendations to improve the state's system.

Health care reform laws and statewide Medicaid expansion mean thousands more Michiganders will be eligible for mental health care.

The first community forum hosted by the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority happens Wednesday, March 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Westland Public Library.

Four more forums are scheduled over the next four Thursdays at sites in Taylor, Detroit and Redford.
