'Project Green Light' Will Expand Video Monitoring In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A high-tech way of monitoring crime within the city of Detroit is expanding.

'Project Green Light' utilizes cameras and green lights installed on signs at businesses. The captured images are sent directly to the Detroit Police Department.

Rachel Johnson lives near Fenkell and Evergreen and she's in favor of the expansion.

"Especially the gas stations ... sometimes at night -- I don't like come to gas station at night time," said Johnson. "So when you see this and know it's being monitored, you feel a bit more safer."

Due to its success, the 'Project Green Light' is being expanded. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and Police Chief James Craig will share details at an announcement Monday.
