Program Preps High School Students For Technical Careers

PONTIAC (WWJ) - They're training students to fill the skilled workers gap in Michigan.

Paul Galbenski is Dean of Oakland Schools Northeast Technical Campus, where students learn the high-tech skills employers are looking for, while also earning college credit

"Not only does this program have a paycheck right out of high school, they have no debts when they're finished with their education, and they have a guaranteed job right here in Michigan," Galbenski said.

Galbenski said students in the program are already on their way to a bright future.

"And then while they are earning that advanced associates degree, not only is tuition being paid — there's a stipend, they earn a salary — but then they're also working for that particular company," Galbenski. "Then, upon completion of that, they have a guaranteed job here in the state of Michigan once they finish the MAT-squared program."

Parents and students who want more details can attend "Engineering and Emerging Technologies (EET) Information Night" on March 20, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m at Oakland Schools Northeast Technical Campus at 1371 N. Perry Pontiac.
