When fans of the squared circle think back to the Monday Night Wars of the late 1990s — what many consider the golden era of professional wrestling — they think about the nWo, the Wolfpack and Degeneration X.

But what about Raven?

His Flock could have been mentioned in the same breath of the legendary stables had it not been for backstage politics. Some within Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling feared the popularity of this cast of outsiders would overtake the über popular faction led by Hulk Hogan.

Caught up in that was Scotty Riggs, whose trademark look came about from a freak yet very real injury in the ring, necessitating the use of an eye patch.

Side note: He told me those same politics meant despite heavy demand, little Flock merchandise was created. He was excited to finally create a line of t-shirts to fill the demand. (#FlockU)

Riggs joined me on the Turnbuckle Weekly and delivered a torrent of stories and wisdom from his time in WCW and later ECW.

His friendship with Sting has spanned greater than two decades, and he thinks the future Hall of Famer is having a blast finally working for Vince McMahon and WWE. And while it appears he's on a collision course to face Triple H at this year's WrestleMania, Riggs would have liked to see his old travel buddy face Undertaker.

We cover that and a whole lot more in this two-part interview. We'll keep it modern in this part and kick it old school when we circle back.

This is a must for all long-tenured wrestling fans.

Here's what you'll hear:

- Did he worry his check from ECW would bounce while he was hospitalized?

- Is WWE set up well for the future with a crop of new stars (Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, etc)?

- How Sting's time has been going so far in WWE

- Debating Sting vs. Undertaker and Sting vs. Triple H at WrestleMania

Part two with a TON of old school backstage wrestling stories coming soon.
