(CBS DETROIT) – For those taking advantage of the summer heat, be mindful when heading to the beach.

Cities along Lake Michigan want everyone to heed water conditions and any warnings.

This comes as many local departments report a shortage in lifeguards.

Lake Michigan also saw a rise in drownings last year.
