FLINT (WWJ/AP) - Flint police say a pregnant woman gave birth after she and her family captured a purse snatcher in a Kroger grocery store parking lot.

The Flint Police Department said the woman, who was 9-months pregnant, was putting groceries in her car on the city's east side around 1:30 p.m. last Thursday when an unarmed man, 30-year-old Mark Newton, grabbed her purse. The woman ran after Newton and after catching up with him, he pushed her down, police said.

Two bystanders who saw what was going on ran after Newton and retrieved the woman's purse. Newton tried to keep running but the woman's family held him until police arrived and placed him under arrest.

Police said the woman delivered a healthy baby boy later that day.

Newton was arraigned on one count of unarmed robbery and ordered held on $8,000 bond. He's due back in court on Sept. 24.
