Postal Inspectors Find $16K In Stuffed Animal
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say postal inspectors in western Michigan found a stuffed animal that was filled with nearly $16,000 in cash instead of fluff.
Inspectors in Grand Rapids spotted a suspicious looking box bound for an address in Phoenix in February. According to search warrant records obtained by the Grand Rapids Press, officers decided to open the box after a drug-sniffing dog "alerted" on the package.
Inside the box was a stuffed animal, but it was unusually heavy, according to investigators. Acting on their suspicions, inspectors cut open the stuffed animal and found $15,900 in cash.
As part of their investigation, police raided an area home believed to be connected to the stuffed animal, where they confiscated bags of money totaling nearly $17,000, as well as marijuana and scales.
It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was charged.
