PONTIAC (WWJ) -- Heavy snow may be to blame for the partial collapse of the Winstar Sports Dome next to the Pontiac Silverdome.

The collapse at the facility on Featherstone Road near Opdyke was spotted Monday afternoon from Chopper 950. The manager of the dome says crews are working to melt the snow off the roof of the facility using big blowers.

Crews are expected to work through the night to re-inflate the Dome. Owner Tony Hermiz said that he has operated domes for years and this incident was a first.

"They're like big tanks, they can withstand 90-mile per hour wind, a lot of snow," Hermiz said. "The problem that we had this time was because of the drift everything came into one big pile and it kinda put too much weight and the pressure couldn't hold it up so it started coming down slowly."

Once the dome is re-inflated, inspectors will be brought in to make sure everything is safe. Indoor soccer league games scheduled for Sunday and Monday will be rescheduled.

There were no injuries.
