Police: Undercover Detroit Police Officer Fatally Shot Man

DETROIT (AP) — An undercover Detroit police officer fatally shot a man after the officers' vehicle was hit by another car while crowds of people were drag racing on the city's east side, authorities said.

Second Deputy Chief Rudy Harper said just before midnight on Sunday, the undercover officers' vehicle was hit by another vehicle. A front-seat passenger then allegedly left the car with a handgun, and one of the undercover officers opened fire, striking and killing the man.

The identity of the man who was killed hasn't been released.

The vehicle that struck the car the officers were in was allegedly stolen.

Authorities said they're still looking for the three other people inside the vehicle.

Authorities said officers' were still giving their statements on what happened. Further details were not immediately released.
