Police Tell Redford Residents To Lock Up After Masked Man Breaks Into Home
REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Police in Redford Township are warning residents to lock their doors and windows after a recent break-in at a home where a woman and children were inside.
The incident took place around 5 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Midland, in a neighborhood just west of Telegraph and 5 Mile roads.
The suspect entered the home through an open window at the home.
"The window is right near my bed and I see this guy just sneaking in my window - he was long and he had dark clothing on and he had a ski-mask on," said Kim (who did not want to give her last name). "I had a chance to get to my feet and that's what I thank God for - because if he would have had a chance to get on top of me - I don't think I would have been able to fight him off."
Kim says the man pistol whipped her when they were struggling and that's when she called her dog, a pit-bull named Monkey.
"I'm like, Monkey, Monkey, Monkey, and then we hear him coming down the hallway - his nails and so could (he) - as soon as he heard that - he ran right back out the window he came in," she said.
The woman suffered some minor injuries. The one-year-old and the other three children in the home were unharmed.
Police say the suspect fled the scene when the woman called for her dog, which started barking. She received a minor injury to the head but is expected to be ok. No other injuries were reported.
Police quickly responded to the scene and searched the area with a K-9 unit, but found no signs of the suspect.
The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20's and about 6-feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie, blue jeans and a ski mask. He is to be considered armed and dangerous.
